One of my Inspirations Creations.

First, I would like to start off with an apology to those who have viewed my blog over the last few months.  As you can tell by looking around, it has been seriously neglected!  When I started it, I had every intention of keeping it up to date but, like I always say, LIFE gets in the way!  With that said, let's get into the thick of things....
When I was a little, little girl, I can remember my Babci, sitting on her sofa, smoking a Pall Mall, watching soap operas, drinking her "Tea Royals" AND crocheting.  She made stuff.  A LOT of stuff.  And she gave it all away.  I never really paid attention until I was about 7 years old.  She tried to teach me but I wasn't interested, I guess.  I have pictures of myself wearing items that she had crocheted for me-particularly, a cute little matching Tam and Poncho set in a pretty off-white color.   I don't have any idea where those items are now but I sure wish I had them today!  I do, however, have several of her granny square afghans!  Some made with the craziest color combinations, obviously crocheted to use up her leftover yarn!  I cherish them and always will.  I use them.  I machine wash and dry them.  They are 30+ years old and haven't come apart.  They don't even really show any signs of wear!  They are warm and cozy and they will be passed on to my children.
Now to present day.  It seems when something is around and you use it almost daily, you don't give much thought to where it came from.  Case in point:

This is a set of hot pads that I have been using since I moved out on my own.  I use them all the time.  I put pots and pans, right from the oven or stove, right onto these babies!  I have cooled cakes and cookies on them.  I have even washed and dries them.  I never gave them much thought until a few months ago.  My Babci made these.  She's been gone for 20 years already so they're AT LEAST that old.  She was sick for a few years before she left us and I know that she didn't crochet during those years either.  I took these from my dad's house when I moved out.  They were there long vefore then.  It seems like they've ALWAYS been around!

This is the other set that I use.  SO I decide, being that my kitchen is cornflower blue, that I am going to make myself a set of these awesome potholders.

This is that set.  I can't wait to use it!  It came out perfect  AND it matches my kitchen!  I will continue to use the other sets.  Babci was a practical person and her things were MADE to be USED!
I'm sure, at some point, I will do a granny square afghan in her memory and to use up my own leftover yarn.  But I have too much on my plate right now....remember that "life gets in the way" quote from above?
My other Gram has been gone for two years now.  She also crocheted.  I have a lot of the items she made for me and the family (including the first hand-sewn nine-block quilt she made when she was 11).  She would have been  95 this year-you do the math.  I miss them both.  I wish they were here to teach me more.  I keep plugging away on my own.  I'm getting there!  Thanks Babci and Gram for being my inspiration!
And thank YOU for reading my Blog.   -  Sherri
